Welcome to the International School of London. I trust that you will find in these web pages not only useful information but also a clear sense of the character of our school. From our commitment to the IB to our extensive and highly regarded Mother Tongue programme, we believe we have established a unique and educationally rewarding identity. Our students, parents and staff represent a genuinely diverse range of languages, nationalities and cultures and – while we operate predominantly in the medium of the English language - we regard this diversity as one of our most precious resources.

I believe also that within our diversity, we are as one in promoting the aims of international education from Early Years through to the IB Diploma. Such aims include:

Ensuring that an attitude of mutual respect exists among all parts of our school community
Ensuring that exemplary achievement in learning is central to all that we do as a school
Ensuring that we promote the opportunities and obligations of global citizenship

We always seek to promote these aims in the welcoming and friendly atmosphere, which is such an important feature of life at our school.

Students may be assured that teachers and classmates will enable them to settle in to our school as quickly as possible. We recognise that moving to a new school and - for many of our students, a new country and/or a new language – can present some challenges - but our induction, transition and educational programmes are designed to make that move a productive and happy one.

Parents may be assured that the International School of London meets high academic and professional international standards. ISL London is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and authorised by the International Baccalaureate (IB) to offer the three IB Programmes - Primary, Middle Years and Diploma. In fact, ISL was a pioneer in the implementation of the IB Diploma and is one of the longest standing IB Diploma schools in the world – having offered it uninterruptedly from 1976 to the present day.

We also have an active and successful parent-teacher association. It is based on a model that enables our students and their families to make a successful transition into their new school. Students and families participate fully in many aspects of school life while they are here, and when the time comes to leave, they farewell the school and their friends in a meaningful way to ensure lasting friendships.

It is not possible in an introductory welcome to cover as many aspects of life at our school as I might wish but I hope and trust that - as you navigate through the site or visit the school itself - it will become clear to you that through the professionalism of our staff and the rich diversity of our community, we can offer a challenging and rewarding educational opportunity to all of our students.
